There are few things better than biting into a brownie…
And this warm, maple walnut blondie, with a cold scoop of vanilla ice cream and hot buttery maple sauce dripping down the sides is brownie heaven.
And although it’s delicious, it’s loaded with unhealthy white sugar, white flour and who knows what else.
Maple Walnut Blondies with Maple Butter Sauce Recipe
Yield: One 9×13″ pan
You Will Need:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour (where to purchase)
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon fine sea salt (I use this one)
- 1 cup whole cane sugar (or try coconut sugar, rapadura, or sucanat)
- 2/3 cup butter, melted
- 4 tablespoons real maple syrup (Try this wood-fired syrup. It’s so good!)
- 2 eggs
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract (learn how to make vanilla extract here)
- 1 batch of Maple Butter Sauce (below)
- 3/4 cup chopped walnuts
Instructions:
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
In a medium bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, and salt.
Use a stand or hand mixer to cream the butter, sugar, and maple syrup. Stir in the eggs and vanilla extract, then mix in the dry ingredients until just combined. (Be careful not to overmix!)
Spoon the batter into a well-oiled 9×13″ baking dish. Use a rubber spatula to gently push the batter to the edge of the pan.
Bake for 20 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the middle comes out clean.
While the blondies are baking, mix up the butter sauce. Pour the sauce over the warm blondies and sprinkle the walnuts on top. Serve warm.
For the Maple Butter Sauce:
- 1/4 cup real maple syrup
- 1/4 cup butter, melted
- 3 tablespoons heavy cream
Mix all of the ingredients together until smooth.
Maple Walnut Blondies Notes
- If you would like, you could mix the walnuts into the batter. However, I happen to have a serious prejudice against nuts being in baked goods, so I prefer to just sprinkle them on top.
- To make a smaller batch, halve the ingredients and bake in a 9×9 inch pan.

My mom made something like this when I was little and I had forgotten all about them. I am not a big chocolate lover so this perfect! I usually make sweets for my hubby and they are normally chocolate so I am going to make these just for me.

I have a couple of questions about the recipe. How is the sauce made? Is it just stirred together or is it cooked? Also, where do the walnuts come in since they are not listed in the ingredients? Thanks.
Jamie Fivecoate Larrison says
The sauce ingredients are stirred together until combined. The butter has to be soft enough though, otherwise it needs heated. And the walnuts are sprinkled on top.

Jaime,
Where do you find coconut butter? And, if I can’t find it what would you substitute it with? Thanks.
Fanny says
I would love to know what can substitute for the coconut butter also please. Thanks!
Jamie Larrison says
You could just leave it out of the recipe or substitute white chocolate chips, although it wouldn’t be as healthy. It’s easy to find though at any Whole Foods, Trader Joe’s or even the health section at Kroger. You’ll find it next to the peanut butter and/or coconut oil.

Wow these look so delicious I’m going to take a shot at making them myself if I can get all the ingredients here. They’re probably going to contribute to a few extra pounds to my waistline though hahaha… thanks for the recipe!

Thanks for posting this simple way to make Vanilla. I have a pint of homemade moonshine I will see how that works. I’ll keep you posted when I open it to use later.

This look AMAZING!! Just wondering what type of flour you use in yours? It almost looks like almond flour in the pictures.
Thanks,
Allie 🙂
Jamie Larrison says
I use whole wheat flour, but you could use white if you wanted. Mine must look a bit grainier since we grind our own flour!
Dee says
Can these be made gluten free? They look delicious!

Are the amounts of the Maple Butter Sauce correct? They are the numbers of the steps in order????? Help
Shari Smith says
I noticed that too! Please tell us the correct amounts for the sauce ingredients.
Lisanna says
I notice this still hasn’t been updated. Can you please put in the tablespoon quantities for the maple butter sauce?
Kayla- Prairie Homestead Assistant says
The recipe for the Maple Butter Sauce it directly underneath the recipe for the blondies.
Lisanna says
I see it now in the main post… it’s just in the printable recipe area where the amounts are not listed. Thanks!

You never say anything about the sugar? Cream melted butter with maple syrup? It was not a stiff batter to spoon?
Jill Winger says
Sorry about that– you would want to cream the sugar in with the butter and syrup. Just edited the recipe.

One person asked about use of non gluten flour, and another question about use of wheat flour, or white. Since we’re doing ketogenic here, I’m gonna try almond flour. They look fantastic!
