85,000 words, 6 months writing the manuscript, 4+ months of pulling my hair out over edits, 2 photo shoots, 3 days recording the audio book, 56 podcast interviews discussing the content.
This project has changed me forever.
And today Old-Fashioned on Purpose FINALLY makes its way into the world!
To celebrate, I want to share a few of my favorite quotes from the book:
“The more I turned to these old-fashioned practices, the more I was able to connect with what truly matters. It’s an awakening to the new and a returning to the old, somehow rolled into one.”
(From Chapter 1)“The magic of an old-fashioned on purpose lifestyle is that we don’t have to do any of it… But these are the exact opportunities that will allow us to become who we were always meant to be.”
(From Chapter 3)“In an era that tries to separate us from understanding how our food gets to our table, choosing an intimate knowledge of what we eat is revolutionary.”
(From Chapter 5)“This book is a rallying cry. I picture people like you and me carefully packing these timeless principles in our suitcases and gripping them tightly while we charge headfirst in to the unknown. These old-fashioned principles will hold true, just like they always have.”
(From the Conclusion)
It’s surreal to see people posting pictures holding the book… For so long, this book only lived in my own mind and laptop. And now it’s making its way across the country. It’s surreal.
But… I need to call in a favor.

Wonderful book! Incredibly insightful. My Mom checked the audio version out from our local library and then shared it with me. I’ve shared it with several of my friends. I’m also now listening to Digital Minimalism and it’s also very good. Thank you for your inspiration, insight, all your knowledge… everything! You’re a blessing. ???

I just finished reading your great new book. Particularly liked the “reasonably dangerous activities” for kids discussion. Re: “The crabs in a bucket”- yes crabs will most definitely pull their “buddies” back into the bucket. When we went crabbing we would tie a long string around a raw chicken neck, wade out about hip deep (to a young teen) throw the chicken neck into the water and wait. Pretty soon you would feel the chicken neck moving. Pull it in and you had a crab- they very rarely let go. Shake the crab into a bucket and repeat. When there are enough crabs in the bucket some will try to climb out. The others reach up and pull the escapees back in the bucket-no need to put a lid on. Spot on that a lot of people are just like that. Sigh. Great book and a great chocolate milkshake! My hubby was in your store yesterday and brought a shake home for me.

This is so inspirational. In a world where everything just seems too complex, too fast, too harsh, too crazy right now – there is something so appealing about just leading a much more simple, quiet life!
