How to Make Sausage Gravy from Scratch
Ingredients
- 4 Tablespoons flour
- 2 1/4 cups whole milk
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- Sea salt and ground black pepper to taste (I use this salt)
Instructions
- In large skillet, cook sausage until evenly browned, Do NOT drain
- Sprinkle with flour, garlic & onion powders, salt, and pepper
- Stir, thoroughly coating the meat
- Allow to cook and brown 2-4 minutes over medium-high heat, stirring constantly to prevent burning
- Browning the flour keeps gravy from tasting like raw flour
- Add milk and mix well
- Bring to a low simmer until it reaches the desired thickness
