Ever since I announced my brand new Homestead Hack feature last week, the ideas have been pouring in! I’ve had a blast looking through all of your brilliant ideas.
What’s a “Homestead Hack?”
Good question. Here is how Wikipedia explains it:
“Life hacking refers to any productivity trick, shortcut, skill, or novelty method to increase productivity and efficiency, in all walks of life; in other words, anything that solves an everyday problem in a clever or non-obvious way”
Apply that definition to homesteading, and that, my friends, is a Homestead Hack.
Today’s Homestead Hack is…
A little trick that’ll save you from standing over the stove next time you are in the mood for mouth-watering caramelized onions.
Today’s tip is from Pam at Brown Thumb Mama.
Her instructions for how to make caramelized onions in the slow cooker are as follows:
- Place the sliced onions in your slow cooker and add 2-3 tablespoons of butter or olive oil, and 1/2 teaspoon of salt.
- Set the slow cooker on Low, and give everything a good stir.
- Let the onions cook for 8-12 hours, or until they are lovely and golden brown.
- Use them in your favorite recipes, or put them on top of burgers, sandwiches, or crusty bread.
Thanks for sharing your clever idea with us Pam!
