When you begin a journey into whole foods, not only does it re-shape your perception of food itself, but it also radically changes the way you grocery shop.
Those first few trips to the grocery store, after the realization that MSG and industrial oils are not ok, can be frustrating and leave you with a sparsely filled shopping cart.
So as you enter the world of real food, it’s important to begin to gather your resources and find reputable companies who are just as interested in natural eating as you are.
Coconut oil is a staple of real food cooking. A healthy, saturated fat, it can be used in an endless number of ways. From baking, to frying, to smoothies, to even homemade popcorn, the sky is the limit!
It’s also my go-to shortening substitute, since I no longer allow Crisco on our property. Icky.
For the majority of our cooking, we prefer a more refined version of the oil, which has no coconut flavor. But, choose a less refined version, like virgin or extra virgin, if you enjoy the subtle flavor of coconut in your baked goods. I have to admit that chocolate chip cookies made with virgin coconut oil are pretty much heavenly. 🙂
The biggest issue with this oil is that you won’t find it in your run-of-the-mill store. Many conventional grocery stores don’t carry it, and the jars you might find at natural food stores are incredibly expensive.
And that is why I was so thankful to discover Tropical Traditions. They are an awesome company who is just as devoted to real food as I am. I buy my coconut oil from them by the gallon and we use it for everything! They also have incredible sales and specials. I don’t think I’ve ever actually paid full price for anything I’ve purchased from them.
When you place your first online order, be sure to mention that you were referred by us (our referral number is 6421089). If you do, they’ll include a fantastic free book with your order that is packed with everything you’ve ever wanted to know about coconut oil, even recipes!
I am so excited to be able to give you a chance to win a quart of their Gold Label Organic Virgin Coconut Oil! This is super high-quality oil, some of the best you can buy. It has a delicious coconut flavor to it, and I love taking off the lid just to smell it. 🙂
