Frugal Homemade Laundry Soap

Ingredients
  • 1 bar of soap (Zote or Fels-Naptha brands, Ivory or homemade soap)
  • ½ cup Borax (like this)
  • 1 cup WASHING Soda (not BAKING soda!) (like this)
  • Water
  • 5 gallon bucket
Instructions
  1. Grate soap with a cheese grater
  2. Place shreds in medium saucepan with several cups water
  3. Heat and stir until soap pieces are dissolved
  4. Add Borax and Washing Soda and stir until dissolved
  5. Pour in a 5 gallon bucket, filling ¾ full with hot water
  6. Give it a good stir, and let sit undisturbed overnight
  7. The finished product will be a gloppy chunky gel
  8. I store it in bulk in a 5 gallon bucket and use a smaller container for my laundry room
Notes
To use: add ¼-1/2 cup per load of laundry (less for cloth diapers)
