“Cultivating the Homestead Community”
Welcome to the 3rd edition of the Homestead Barn Hop!
This hop is hosted by The Prairie Homestead, along with three other fantastic homesteading gals:
Amy from Homestead Revival,
Kendra from New Life on a Homestead,
and Megan from A Blossoming Homestead!
We encourage you to stop by every Monday and share your latest homesteading posts with us.
From cooking to animals to gardening, we want to hear what’s been happening at your homestead.
Some Simple Guidelines:
1. Remember to provide a link back to the Homestead Barn Hop in the post that you share. Feel free to grab the banner at the top of this post and use it to link back to us!
2. Please link to a specific post, not your blog’s main page.
3. If you don’t have a blog, share your latest homestead updates in a comment on this post!
Have fun, get to know some new homesteading friends, and be sure to join us every Monday!
Thanks for hosting! this is a cautionary post – we, sadly, have learned all this the hard way and are embroiled in a very stupid and expensive water use situation – utterly unfair – but these are the rules and laws that are in place— beware!
Thanks for hosting! I’m linking up the latest Herbal Medicine Chest post. Come visit me and share your own personal herbal remedies.
I am trying something new this year in my garden to start seeds and bedding plants. I am using old hay or straw bales well soaked in water to plant my seeds and baby plants. So far it is working great! Just be sure to add in some dirt and compost in the center of the bale. I figure it is instant mulch and weed free to boot! I have tomato plants, yellow squash and melons started so far. I am doing a side by side comparison with in ground plants and hay/straw bale plants. I checked the internal temperature of the bales and they were a nice toasty warm place. My seeds sprouted in record time inside the bales.
You might want to give em a try, with horses and cattle we have no shortage of old hay laying around.
Deb- I’ve never heard of this before!! What a great idea!
Thank you so much for visiting my blog and leaving such kind feedback! I have really enjoyed the Barn Hop and can’t even begin to tell you how much I have enjoyed learning so many new things! With time, some practice, and a lot of prayer, I will try to apply what I’ve learned to our home. Thank you again and I hope the Barn Hop contiues!
